EFFECT OF SPACING ON REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF INDIAN PEAFOWL (Pavo cristatus) IN CAPTIVITY

Effective use of available cage spaces in wild bird breeding systems captivity is ofprime economic concern. Present study was carried out at Punjab Wildlife Research InstituteFaisalabad to evaluate effect sizes on reproductive performance the Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus). Three groups; A, B and C were selected nurtured under threedifferent sizes, viz. 30, 21 12 square meters with an space 10, 7 4 per bird, respectively. The birds kept a sex ratio 1 male:2 female. Number male mounting, egg production (average number eggs laid hen), average weight, percent egghatchability, fertility chicks’ weight found significantly higher (P˂0.01)in reared 21m2 size, followed by and12 m2 Thisstudy indicated that, case Peafowl, flock intermediate spacingperformed better than that large spacing or too narrow spacing.
